Noor — The Camera-Friendly Tigress

Ranthambore’s Most Sighted Tigress

Noor (T-39), whose name means “light” in Urdu, lives up to her name by being one of the most visible and frequently sighted tigresses in Ranthambore National Park. She is a favourite among safari-goers and photographers because of her calm demeanour around tourist vehicles.

Personality & Behaviour

What makes Noor special is her unique combination of stealth and comfort around humans. While she is a master predator capable of silent stalks through dense forest, she is equally comfortable resting beside safari tracks in full view of camera-clicking tourists.

This rare trait has made her one of the most photographed tigers in the park, second only to the legendary Machali and Arrowhead.

Territory

Noor primarily operates in the core zones of Ranthambore, particularly around:

  • Zone 2 — her primary base with dense canopy cover
  • Zone 3 — she occasionally ventures into Arrowhead’s territory
  • Sultanpur area — her favourite hunting grounds

Cubs & Legacy

Noor has raised multiple litters of cubs successfully. Her three most recent cubs have grown into strong sub-adults and are now in the process of establishing their own territories across the park. Her parenting skills have been widely admired by wildlife researchers.

“If you want a guaranteed tiger sighting experience, Zone 2 with Noor is your best bet. She’s the tiger that makes first-time visitors fall in love with Ranthambore.”
